Quebec Run

Quebec Run is a very scenic area of Forbes State Forest. We hiked a loop from the Hess Trailhead, from the Hess trail to the Rankin Trail to the Mill Run Trail and back to the parking area on the Miller Trail, a bit less than 4 miles.
There was one other vehicle at the trailhead and we saw no one. Its unpopularity is completely at odds with its beauty. I brought along both the DCNR map from their website and a map from a hiking guidebook, but we found the trailheads all properly marked. (The trailhead itself is marked on Google Maps, as "Hess Trail Parking Lot, Farmington, PA".)  I was hoping to catch the mountain laurel and rhododendrons in abundant bloom, but it turned out that mid-July is too late! Either the info I had was wrong, or they were rather early this year, so I hope to return next year in late June. Luckily it was still gorgeous.
