Raccoon Creek (Week 7)
Our visit to Raccoon Creek Wildflower Reserve on May 8 was definitively different than our last two. The peak of spring wildflower season was over there. And it was very, very green!
In the floodplain, the ferns were stretching out and reaching full size. They were glorious. The trees were nearly fully leafed out. Mayapple was blooming in wild abandon, along with buttercups and purple and white violets. Bluets and wild geranium were still holding on. At the very precipice of Shafer Rock, a clump of wild columbine was bursting into bloom.
